Doors, windows and lanes of the Tuscan villages
These are my own photos, taken over the years in the little hill villages around Pescia, the Svizzera Pesciatina, and a few further afield. They are grouped the way I always end up taking them: doors first, then windows, knockers, whole villages and the lanes in between.
Doors
Green doors, mostly. Painted, peeling, arched and framed with flowers.

Find the doors in their villages: Aramo, Pietrabuona, San Quirico, Sorana, Pontito.
Windows
Shutters, window boxes and the odd cat keeping watch.

The cat has its own story in The cats of the Tuscan villages.
Village backdrops
Whole villages on their hillsides, in sun, snow and low cloud.

More about the area: Pescia and the Svizzera Pesciatina and villages near Lucca worth the trip.
Around the streets
Archways, steps and narrow lanes, often with the washing out.

Walk the lanes with me in Medicina, Vellano, San Quirico.
People
Festa day in Stiappa, when the whole valley turns up for beccutini.

Read about the day in Sagra del Beccutino: Stiappa’s Ferragosto festa.
